How does it work? What do I have to do in session?

Everyone has different concerns and goals for counselling, so it will be different depending on the individual. Together, we come up with a plan, and regularly check in to see if we need to adjust or add anything. Aside from talk therapy, some of the things my clients and I have done is: homework, role play, skills practice, behavioural experiments, meditation, breathing and relaxation exercises, etc. Since you are a unique person, your therapy will be just as unique as you!

I am a bit nervous about starting therapy...

This makes total sense! Thank you for being so honest. I will not judge you, and can even help you reduce some of your own self-judgements if this is where you struggle. I come from a compassionate and sensitive perspective, and can help clients build their own self-compassion. I encourage you to try therapy and experience the surprise at how relieved you are after opening up about you own personal concerns. You get to set the pace of therapy. You get to decide what to share and how much.

How long will therapy take?

This is definitely a frequently asked question, but, unfortunately, this is not something I can readily answer. As said before, you and your circumstances are unique! There is a check in on progress around the 4-6 session mark to help to keep clients focused on meeting their goals and feeling like they’re getting the most they can from therapy.
